Edith Hall to speak at Iris Event
We are pleased to announce the first annual guest speaker evening to be
held this year in June.

The Confrontational Genre of Greek Tragedy

Professor Edith Hall
Royal Holloway University of London

7pm, followed by a drinks reception
On Wednesday 3rd June 2009
at King’s College London The Strand, WC2R 2LS

Professor Edith Hall needs no introduction to anyone in the field of Classics or Drama so we are delighted that she will become the first speaker of our new annual event. Professor Hall’s lecture will be followed by a drinks reception, where attendees can also look at some of the work of The Iris Project in state schools and inner cities over the last few years.

We are asking that attendees to help us cover some of our costs.
Lecture only: £5
Lecture and drinks: £10.

‘Friends of Iris’ get to attend the event free of charge.

The Friends of Iris scheme was launched in autumn 2008 to demonstrate visible support through many small individual donations towards our project costs and to enable the project to make applications to trusts and foundations for large grants.
You can become a Friend of Iris by visiting www.irismagazine.org/friends and signing up.

To book a place at the event please send a cheque made payable to ‘The Iris Project’ to The Iris Project, Department of Classics, King's College London, Strand, WC2R 2LS or email lorna@irismagazine.org.

new words

We believe that all children are entitled to the opportunity of learning about the languages and cultures of the ancient world, and that these subjects are wonderful tools for enhancing literacy, social awareness and analytical skills. Through a range of initiatives in UK state schools, we work to enrich the curriculum by promoting learning about the ancient world.
