Ted Hughes' Euripides 'Alcestis' in London
We at Iris are delighted to have discovered we now share our name with an exciting new theatre company, Iris Theatre! More excitingly still, this November Iris Theatre (www.iristheatre.com) at the Actor's Church in Covent Garden, Central London, is following up their last two dramatic verse plays with a production of Euripides' Alcestis translated by Ted Hughes.
Iris Theatre is dedicated to creating site specific work which uses epic spaces to house total theatre; encompassing music, movement and text. It is based at St. Paul's Church, the Actor's Church, in Covent Garden.
With the ten aniversary of Poet Laureate Ted Hughes's death this autumn, November will see a large scale production with a two week run of Ted Hughes' extraordinary version of Euripides' Alcestis.

We believe that all children are entitled to the opportunity of learning about the languages and cultures of the ancient world, and that these subjects are wonderful tools for enhancing literacy, social awareness and analytical skills. Through a range of initiatives in UK state schools, we work to enrich the curriculum by promoting learning about the ancient world. |
